Getting to this piece of paradise, because that is the only way to describe it, was a bit of a hassle but well worth it!
Mr. Minhad is the boatman that the information office put us in contact with. He is charming man and all about him speaks happiness. He treated us after our 2 hour taxi ride with his contagious smile. With his smile stretched ear to ear, he explained to us how life has treated him well and how easy life has become with the construction of a road to his village. He now drives and owns an old Pajero of which his is quite fond as he fixed it up himself. He gets all excited when he talks about it, like a little boy with his tonkas! For a living, he farms his own crops including coconuts that he makes coconut oil from. He says the oil is good for cooking and also to massage his wife ;)
He also goes out fishing and enjoys crossing paths with travelers such as us when he serves as boatman once in a while.
We knew the moment we stepped off Mr. Minhad's fishing boat, that we were in for a treat. Tanjung Datu National Park was one of our highlights of our 8 month trip!
I did a video about this place that shows a lot of what we lived. But basically, we were here camping for 3 nights and we were the only ones there. In other words, we had paradise all to ourselves!!!

I never though that sea turtles could be so interesting, I really got to learn a lot about them here, about their life cycle, why they are endangered and got to witness it all first hand!
My sister also did a more general video about sea turtles that is quite informative. I hope you will enjoy them both!
Tajung Datu National Park
Turtles- Life cycle
While we were here in Tanjung Datu, appart from observing and learning about the turtles, we trekked along the beautiful Belian trail early one morning. We didn't see many animals since the primary jungle  here is so thick, but we heard them well! We heard Gibbons calling and hornbills flying like the sound of a small plane taking off... we really enjoyed ourselves! And there are no words to explain having such an untouched stretch of white sand beach all to ourselves. We were kind of sad to leave and only because we had booked plane tickets to our next destination did we not extend our stay here...
